CORPORATE GOVERNANCE SERVICES Before the new era of company scandals, the concept of corporate governance generally was the exclusive realm of Wall Street and corporate attorneys. "Corporate governance" was virtually never on the agenda for board meeting, even for most public companies. Frankly, most people couldn't care less about it. The changes mandated by Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 have been the most far-reaching since the Securities Act of 1933 and Securities and Exchange Act of 1934. For public companies, compliance is very costly; non-compliance carries stiff civil and criminal penalties for officers, directors and certain professionals. Corporate reforms sought through legislation and enforcement have produced changes in the private and non-profit sectors as well.
